Large Projects to Date- Peregrine Falcon Nest Site Characteristics

Peregrine Falcon Nest Map

My senior capstone project was to examine U.S. peregrine falcon urban nest site characteristics. Using nest camera footage available online, I collected data on nest site locations and characteristics. Utilizing the full capabilities of ArcGIS 10.0 and SYSTAT, I analyzed the proximity of urban nest sites to large bodies of water, and the area of open space within 50km. I compared this data to the historical characteristics of peregrine falcon natural nest sites.

Large Projects to Date- Santa Clara OSA Stock Pond

Santa Clara OSA Stock Pond

As part of my Advanced Restoration class at San Jose State, I played a critical role in the creation of a feasibility study for the restoration of a stock pond owned by the Santa Clara OSA. The pond is currently occupied by California red-legged frogs, and was nearby a California tiger salamander breeding pond.

As the Head of GIS for the project, I was responsible for creating all of the maps and geographic images for the sample references, report, and presentation.

Large Projects to Date- Fires in the Foggy Forest

Fires in the Foggy Forest

As the major project for a GIS class, I decided to study the size of fires in primary and secondary growth redwood forests. I chose to focus my study on the southern portion of the coastal redwood range. Historic wildfire data was collected from the Cal Fire Department's data collections, and a recent map of California's coastal redwood range was borrowed from the Humboldt State Library archives. All of the data was georeferenced and geoprocessed.

·         Created a GIS database and used SQL to study historical changes in nest site characteristics of the peregrine falcon, under the direction of Dr. Lynne Trulio. I created both graphic and technical representations of the results using ESRI ArcGIS, Adobe Photoshop, MS Access and MS Excel (January-May 2012).
·         Worked on the S.F. Public Utility Commission's Bioregional Habitat Restoration, as a Specialty Environmental Monitor. I worked closely with project managers, contracted construction firms, and environmental scientists to monitor construction activities and survey for flora and fauna (June 2012-October 2012).
